A new nematic liquid crystalline compound, 2-cyanonaphthalen-6-yl 4-(3,7-dimethyloctyloxy) –benzoate has been synthesized. Its liquid crystalline properties have been studied using polarizing optical microscopy and DSC. Unit cell and microstructural parameters have been determined using powder X-ray diffraction technique. It is found that the compound crystallizes in hexagonal crystal system and the crystallite size is different in different Bragg directionsen_US
