The mechanism for extended inflation from higher-dimensional theories of gravity is investigated. On the introduction of nonminimal coupling for the inflaton field, a viable model is obtained. Sufficient inflation, as well as the completion of transition, is possible. The scale factor of the internal space is anchored in a metastable state of the resultant potential.en
