Abstract: | A new principle for the design of discotic nematic liquid crystals is presented. The first examples of compounds which contain two triphenylene discotic mesogens connected via a rigid ð-conjugated diacetylene spacer are reported. These discotic twins form a discotic nematic mesophase over a wide temperature range. |
