| Abstract: | A homologous series of eight 1-(p-n-alkylbiphenyl)
3-(p-chloropheny1)propane-1,3-diones have been synthesised
and their mesophases characterised. Most of the lower homologues exhibit an enantiotropic smectic A phase, while the
undecyl and dodecyl derivatives show in addition a smectic E
phase. |
