Abstract: The P.M.R. spectrum of 2,2'-bithiophene has been studied in a nematic solvent. It is found that the molecule exists neither in a single planar form nor in a non-planar one. The results show that it exists as a mixture of the cis-like and the trans-like planar structures. The relative weights of the two forms, however, cannot be obtained from these studies.
