Abstract: The application of NMR to the determination of structure and conformation of biologically important molecules is demonstrated. Interproton distances in N-methylimidazole are determined from experiments performed under two different orientations The results indicate a hindered rotation of the methyl group about the N-C bond: in the preferred conformation a C-H bond of the methyl is in the ring plane pointing away from the CC-H bond.
