Abstract: The process of preparation of chemicals and compounds in the chemistry laboratories needs to go through several stages and each of these stages requires different assemblies of glass apparatus. The glass apparatus is normally assembled with the help of a number of intermediate adaptors and this process is rather cumbersome and expensive especially for a small laboratory. In this article the design and fabrication of an adapter for multipurpose use has been described. This versatile multi-functional adapter can be used to assemble various glass components that can perform functions like refluxing, distillation, vacuum distillation, recovery and reactions. Instead of changing the number of adapters for different purposes, a single adapter of this kind will simplify the task. While a standard model has been described in this work, the sizes of the ground joints of the adapter may vary depending upon the work process, the quantity of chemicals used at a time and the apparatus available in the laboratory.
