| Abstract: | We argue that the recently discovered supernova in the Large Magellanic Cloud represents the transition of a white dwarf to a neutron star in a binary system. The rapid rise to maximum light, the very subluminous nature and reports of the detection of neutrinos from the event are fully consistent with the proposed model. |
