Antiparallel ordering of molecules in liquid crystals of swallow - tailed compounds

Abstract

We have investigated the dielectric properties of two biaromatic compounds with branched end chains (swallow tailed compounds). The studies show the existence of antiparallel correlations in both nematic and isotropic phases indicating a head-to-tail arrangement of neighboring molecules.
