Abstract: | The rapid rotation rate of ~ 1.5 ms of the newly discovered pulsar PSR 1937 + 21 is attributed to spin-up in a long-lived mass transfer binary. Such a history leads to a prediction of a very low period derivative ~ 6 X 10^-19 ss-1 for this pulsar. The gravitational radiation from this pulsar is expected to be negligible. |
