Abstract: Terminal polar nitro group-derived rod-shaped two sets of molecules were synthesized and characterized for their mesomorphic properties. Chemical and molecular structures were confirmed by standard spectroscopic methods. Thermochemical and physicochemical properties were evaluated using Elemental analysis, DSC, POM and X-ray analysis techniques. Nematic mesophase is dominated in both sets of molecules. These kinds of molecules exhibit the ferroelectric nematic (NF) phase and experimentally proven. Here, similar molecules extending to other groups like short and long alkyl chains and the middle of the molecule on the aromatic ring were substituted with polar and non-polar groups to study their effect on mesomorphic properties.
