The optical properties of cadmium selenide quantum dots were investigated in the nematic liquid crystals, which were used as an anisotropic medium. The effects of anisotropic media on the optical properties of immersed quantum dots were studied through ultra-violet absorption/transmission spectroscopy. The optical band gap and refractive index of immersed quantum dots were calculated for isotropic and anisotropic medium. The influences of anisotropic medium on the optical properties of quantum dots were discussed in terms of anchoring of liquid crystals molecules on the surfaces of immersed quantum dots.en_US
