Equilibrium measurements of surface tension (γ) have been carried out on ethyl p-azoxybenzoate and 4'-n-pentyl-4-cyanobiphenyl (5CB) by the pendant drop method. The γ-T characteristics of both the compounds show positive d γ/dT, which may be considered as an evidence of orientationally ordered states developing near the surf ace. The 'data for 5CB are in ,excellent agreement with those reported recently by Gannon and Faber, who used another experimental method.en
