Abstract: This study throws light on the definition, the historical development of Artificial intelligence (AI) and its application in different streams of study. This paper mainly deals with the implementation of AI in the library environment and also discussed the issues and challenges in deploying AI in libraries. It gives some insights on Competencies and skills required for Librarians in the AI era and the role of librarians in this artificially intelligent society.
