Abstract: h-Index is a single number proposed by J.E. Hirsch in 2005 that has since gained popularity in measuring research performance of individuals, institutions and universities etc. This paper attempts to introduce this relatively new indicator and bring out the concepts underlying this indicator The study applies h-index to studying research performance of scientists at Raman Research Institute and compares the results of this stuy with the findings from Hirsch's investigations on h-index of physicists
