| Abstract: | Dr. C. V. Raman presiding over the annual meeting of the Indian Academy of Sciences, discussed the investigations made in his laboratory at Bangalore that led to the discovery that amethyst exhibited three different absorption spectra corresponding to three muatually perpendicular directions and not just one as had hitherto been supposed. He also discussed the nature and origin of amethyst. |
