| Abstract: | Dr. C. V. Raman revealed that the results of investigations carried out in his laboratory at the Raman Research Institute, Bangalore, had led to the discovery that amethyst exhibited three absorption spectra, corresponding to three mutually perpendicular directions and not just one, as had hitherto been supposed. |
