Abstract: | The CDF collaboration at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory has recently announced evidence for the existence of a top quark with a mass of 174 GeV/c². This discovery provides us now with a completed picrure of the matter content of the standard model of elementary particle physics. This article is aimed at providing a self-contained introduction to this report from a non- specialist's point of view. |
